TUCSON – In today’s “Raising Kids” segment Erin Lyons with First things First stopped by to tell us about Quality First, a high-quality education initiative for child care center in Arizona.

In Arizona, more than half of the children under six years old live in families where all the adults work, making quality child care an educational and economic necessity.

Both research and common sense tell us high quality child care makes a difference. Children in high-quality child care settings fare better in school, and develop better language and social skills.

What’s the best way to help developmentally disabled?
News from Beaufort Observer:

At the recent Town Hall meeting sponsored by the Beaufort Patriot Tea Party and hosted by Rep. Bill Cook a large contingent of the audience advocated for preserving programs designed to assist the developmentally disabled. Most speakers called for fully funding various government programs. None even indicated they were aware of a remarkable bill working its way through the General Assembly by Republicans who favor providing less money to run programs and more relief directly to parents and guardians so these caregivers are empowered by being able to pick and choose the services their children or ward need. The idea behind the plan is to make the bureaucrats who run the programs more accountable directly to parents rather than a top-heavy bureaucracy in Raleigh.

Terry Stoops, the Education expert with the John Locke Foundations recently wrote a column on this movement. Here is what Terry had to say
