Education update: Manitowoc Co. kids earn writing awards

MADISON — Zylia Kleinfeldt of Newton, Ronna Nelson of Two Rivers and Addison Fowler of Manitowoc are winners in the local PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest, according to a news release.

Kleinfeldt received a Judge’s Award in the kindergarten category for her story, “Rainbow Dance.” Nelson received a Judge’s Award in the second-grade category for her story, “A Story About Bella Bear.” Fowler received a Judge’s Award in the third-grade category for her story, “Harry the Pea.”

The contest gives youngsters in kindergarten through third grade an opportunity to expand their creative skills in the areas of storytelling, writing and drawing. Prizes are awarded in each grade level for achievement in writing and illustration. This year’s contest received 485 entries.

Wisconsin winners will be honored at an awards ceremony at the Sun Prairie Library in May.

St. Gregory School plans visitation day and open house

MANITOWOC — St. Gregory School of St. Nazianz has scheduled a visitation day and open house for prospective 2012-13 students on Thursday.

Families with children eligible for 3-year-old preschool may visit the classroom from 9 to 10:30 a.m., and 4-year-old preschool students and incoming kindergarten students are invited from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Preschool and kindergarten visitation will include activities.
