DOWNERS GROVE—
The District 99 Education Foundation has presented about $ 20,000 in grants for North High School and South High School in Downers Grove.
“Each year, our foundation members are blown away by the types and levels of lessons our educators are teaching,” said District 99 Education Foundation president Eric Olson, in a statement. “Our mission is to help bring the newest technologies into the classroom, and we believe the projects we’ve selected will definitely enhance student experiences and opportunities.”
Each year, the foundation receives requests from teachers for new equipment and teacher tools, foundation officials said. A foundation committee then reviews the requests and determines what will be rewarded.
The grants will pay for:
- A heart-rate monitoring device for North High School students, who will measure their fitness levels in class
- iPods for science, special education and world language classes at South High School
- Energy bikes for physics class at South High
- Clickers for science and math classes at North High
- A microcontroller kit to create prototypes of electronic devices in North High science classes
- iPads for South High special education classes
