Chibok Schoolgirls: We’ll Not Give Up On Girl Child Education – School Principal

Mrs Asabe Kwambura, the principal of Government Secondary School Chibok, from where over 200 girls were abducted last month by the Boko Haram sect, said yesterday that the condemnable kidnapping should not in any way discourage parents from enrolling and keeping their daughters in school.

The principal made this call at a protest rally in Maiduguri, which was organised by various civil society groups and allied professional bodies

Addressing the protesting group, the principal of Government Girls Secondary School, Yerwa in Maiduguri, Hajiya Fati Abubakar, who stood in for the principal, GSS Chibok, Mrs Asabe Kwambura, noted that though the abduction of over 200 girls by Boko Haram may have caused many parents to consider not sending their daughte……………. continues on Leadership Newspapers

IT SHOULD BE OUR DAY: Celebration of Children’s Day in Abuja

Abuja — The federal government has expressed regret that the abduction of the female students of the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, may erode some of the gains made in promoting girl-child education and balancing the gender gap in education in Nigeria.

It, however, gave the assurance that it was working assiduously to ensure the safe rescue and return of the girls, while putting adequate security measures in place across schools for the adequate protection of children, to forestall future occurrences.

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zainab Maina, at a press briefing yesterday to mark the 2014 Children’s Day in Abuja, also appealed to parents not to relent in their effort to send their girls to school.
