News from Stillwater News Press:

Smart Start of Stillwater begins focusing on the importance of children’s education before they even get to the classroom.

From the time children are born, Smart Start works to make sure they have all of their needs met.

Director Sarah Manuel said it is important to begin a child’s education at a young age to be sure they are successful once they start school.

“There are so many things before they get to that point to set their brains and get them ready to start school,” Manuel said.

To achieve its overall goal, Smart Start focuses on child nutrition and providing children with a safe and well-rounded home environment. Ultimately, Smart Start aims to prepare kids for jobs after graduating or college.

“In our community, we have a high poverty level, and so that in turn impacts the way the children are developed and ready for school,” Manuel said.
