St. Mary’s Senior High School (SHS) over the weekend held its 65th speech and prize-giving day with a call on the government and stakeholders to put premium on girl-child education. The Accra based SHS has, therefore, called on government and stakeholders to commit more resources into the education of the girl-child.

Speaking at the occasion, Mrs. Sara Norkor Anku, Chairperson for the occasion said committing more resources into the education of the girl-child will help harness and unleash the “unimaginable” potential the girl child possesses, towards national development.

Mrs. Anku, who is an assistant Registrar-General at the Registrar General’s Department said; “The girl-child has unimaginable potential that society should be encouraged to blossom for the benefit of the individual and the society at large.

“Until recent affirmative action of the girl child -it did appear that culturally the boy child had been the focus of formal education. It is not surprising that there has been a distortion or gender imbalance in the leadership of our dear nation Ghana.
