Gov’t promotes girl child education in Tolon

Government has distributed free school uniforms, foot wears, school bags, sanitary pads and other learning materials to about 1,200 female students in the Tolon District.

This is in line with government’s agenda to promote girl child education in the country.

The beneficiaries were from 16 selected Junior High Schools in the Tolon District.

A total of 508 female students each received two pairs of school uniforms, one foot wear, 10 exercise books and a graph book, pens, pencils and sanitary pads.

District Chief Executive for Tolon, Seidu Abubakari who supervised the distribution exercise decried the falling standard of education in the area but gave the assurance that it would soon be overturned.

He described girl child education as one of the monumental challenges his administration was determined to address.

According to him, government’s Girls Participatory Approach to Student Success (GIRLS PASS) aimed at increasing girl child enrolment in schools was on course.

He challenged female students especially the beneficiaries to place premium on their studies.

My education started in the German school system. Obedience and respect by the teacher was expected. Teachers at that time where extensions of home and home an extension of the school.
