Comment: NSW childcare minister faces preschool stoush
Parents worried that childcare and education costs are hitting their wallets far harder than most other areas of household spending have had their suspicions confirmed.
The latest consumer price index figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics reveal that CPI increases for childcare and schooling have far outstripped price rises in many other parts of the economy.
While the CPI rose overall by only 1.3 per cent in the year to March, it leapt by a hefty 5.4 per cent in education and by an even more burdensome 8.5 per cent in the childcare sector.

Prof. Ibraheem Gbajabiamila, VC of Crescent University, Abeokuta, has said girls’ education is benefits, not only the girls themselves, but their children, communities and the society at large.
Excluding women and children from education has negative impact on the nation’s economic development, says the Vice Chancellor of the Crescent University, Abeokuta, Prof. Ibraheem Gbajabiamila.
Delivering a lecture entitled: ‘Girl-child Education and National Development’, in Lagos, Gbajabiamila said girl-child education is a veritable tool for developing the society.
“Systematic exclusion of girls and women from schools and the labour force translates into a less educated work force, inefficient allocation of labour, lost productivity and consequently diminished progress in economic development,” he said.
Noting that the university has graduated more female than male first class graduates, Gbajabiamila said it was regrettable that Nigerian children of school age, especially girls, are seen hawking instead of getting an education……………. continues on Pulse Nigeria
